Basic Metals, Inc. has installed a new Red Bud Industries’ High Speed Slitting Line in their Germantown, Wisconsin, service center. The Slitting Line will join their existing Red Bud Cut-To-Length / Blanking Line.
The new highly automated line is designed to process aluminum coils up to 60" (1,524 mm) wide and 40,000 lb (18,144 kg) at thicknesses up to .190" (4.826 mm). The new system incorporates many unique features which offer quick set up, efficient operation and higher quality. Among the many features addressing quality is a “Tension Trac” System which gives the operator a visual graph indicating the amount of tension being applied to the recoiled material. The system also incorporates a unique “Camber Trac” System which prevents the introduction of additional camber during processing. |

To reduce Slitter induced stress in the material, an innovative Automatic Passline Adjustment Slitting System automatically positions the top and bottom knives so both are centered relative to the thickness of the material.
For quick set up the line also utilizes a push button head changing system which allows offline Slitter set up and two minute head change. The line’s strip dividers automatically adjust and center the strips allowing “hands off” threading. A unique Loop Traverser automatically threads the strips from the Slitting Head to the nip point of the Tension Stand. The Loop Traverser also provides a Loop Doubler.
