M C Steel has relocated its service center from Elk Grove Village to Wheeling, Illinois. They decided to use the move as an opportunity to upgrade their existing slitting capabilities.

The new line is capable of processing coils up to 75" (1,905 mm) wide and 60,000 lb (27,216 kg) at thicknesses up to .250" (6.35 mm). In addition, the line includes several innovative features to improve the quality of the finished coils and the overall performance of the system. A unique “Camber Trac” System allows the Slitting Head to move in relationship to the material preventing the introduction of additional camber. The “Camber Trac” System allows the Slitter to move relative to the material, eliminating the potential of losing the trimmed scrap. In addition, the Slitter features “Automatic Passline Slitting” which automatically positions the top and bottom Slitter knives so both are centered relative to the thickness of the material. Consequently, the load on the knives is equalized resulting in longer knife life and a better quality cut.

A uniquely designed Thread System supports

the strips as they are thread from the Slitting Head to the Tensioning System. In addition, the system automatically threads the strips into the nip point of the Tension Stand. Another feature included in the line is Red Bud’s “posi-grip” Recoiler clamp. The material thickness compensating “posi-grip” clamp holds strips tightly throughout the entire gage range. The system automatically compensates for crown and other material thickness variations across the width of the coil to assure each strip is securely clamped. Rewind strip tension at the Recoiler is also automatically calculated and displayed at the operator control station. The system assures proper winding tension is applied for the material thickness being processed.

Also included in the new system is a Reel/Coil Stage & Load System, Peeler Breaker with Threading Pinch Rolls, Entry Crop Shear, Thickness Gauge, 2 Slitting Heads with Traversing Bases, Scrap Winders, Tension System, Pull Through Leveler, Exit Crop Shear, Recoiler, Exit Coil Lift, Exit Turnstile, Line Monitoring System, and Packaging Line.
