Russel Metals of Mississauga, Canada, recently installed a .250" (6.35 mm) by 72" (1,829 mm) wide Stainless Steel High Speed Cut-To-Length/Blanking Line designed and built by Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, Illinois USA, at its Boucherville division in Quebec.

After reviewing Coil Processing Systems supplied by manufacturers both from Canada and the United States, Russel Metals selected the Red Bud System. The High Speed Close Tolerance Blanking Line is specifically designed to address the growing demands for surface critical close tolerance blanks as well as deliver substantial additional production capacity over an extended thickness range.

To offer maximum production capacity, the line incorporates two Herr-Voss Roller Levelers giving the line an extended operational

thickness range of .020-.250" (0.5 to 6.35 mm). The light gage Leveler features a traversing base to move in and out of line. Through the use of Red Bud’s patented Servo Hydraulic Grip Feed Measuring System, the High Speed Blanking Line can produce surface critical blanks with a ±.005" (±0.127 mm) length tolerance directly from coil at production speeds up to 275 FPM (84 MPM). To further enhance the line’s close tolerance capabilities, both the Grip Feed and Shear incorporate camber compensation capabilities to compensate for camber in the material and influence the diagonal measurements of the finished parts. To address the need to separate scrap and secondary parts efficiently, the line incorporates a unique Part Sorting System. This push button, hands free system separates scrap and secondary parts from the prime stack.
