Titan Steel Corporation has installed a new High Speed Red Bud Slitting Line. The line is installed at their 110,000 square foot facility located in Stoney Creek, Ontario.

The new highly automated line is designed to process coils up to 72" (1,828 mm) wide, with speeds up to 1,000 FPM (305 MPM), coil weights to 60,000 lb (27,216 kg), and material thicknesses from .015" (.38 mm) to .250" (6.35 mm). The new system incorporates many unique features that allow quick set up and efficient operation. Among the many features addressing quality is a "Tension Trac" System that gives the operator a visual graph indicating the amount of tension being applied to the recoiled material guaranteeing tightly wound coils. To reduce Slitter induced stress in the material, an innovative Automatic Passline Adjustment System automatically positions the top and bottom knives so both are centered relative to the thickness of the material.

For quick set up and flexibility, the line also utilizes a push button head changing system, which allows offline Slitter set up and two-minute Head change. The line's strip dividers automatically adjust and center the strips allowing "hands off" threading. A unique Loop Traverser provides hands free threading of the strips from the Slitting Head, across the Looping Pit, to the nip point of the tension rolls.

The line consists of a 60,000 lb (27,216 kg) Coil Stage & Load System, Uncoiler, Peeler Breaker, Entry Crop Shear, Dual Slitter Heads, In-Line Scrap Winder, Automatic Thread System, Exit Crop Shear, Tension System, Recoiler, Traversing Coil Car, and Turnstile.
